This past weekend, a moment I have been waiting four years for came around: A visit to one of my favourite places in London, the V&A museum to soak up the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition. Several years ago I missed the exhibition by a couple of days when it was showing in New York… Talk about gutted!
Like a kid in a candy shop I practically sprinted through the doors to the space.
On entry the atmosphere is intense, moody and strangely quiet for so many people in one place. We are all in awe at the attention to detail in telling Lee’s story. Each room is curated carefully to reflect each collection – I don’t want to give to much away and spoil the surprises in store! Let’s just say you need to look beyond the mannequins and listen carefully…
It was such a moving experience for me to be able to see these iconic couture pieces, that over the years I have only ever seen in books or online. Being able to take in the haunting beauty of each piece in person has strengthened my appreciation and passion for McQueen’s work.
I’m already planning visit number two before the exhibition is packed up and moved to its next destination. Get a move on, it’s only showing until August!
