Smell is a powerful sense. It has the ability to make us think of those closest to us or transport us back to a moment in time. (Eg, Dior Homme reminds me of being 18 and using way too much!)
Finding your signature scent can be tricky with so many variations available. Don’t just pick up the first bottle you see being promoted by a handsome model in a suit or lack thereof. It should be reflective of your personality.
Here are my tips to guide you on your fragrance journey…
Personality – Fragrances have a magical quality of “Suiting” someone. Much like clothes, a scent should be a reflection of who you are.
Preference – Take your time in finding something you like. Don’t be drawn into immediately buying big fashion house parfum just for the label – they can be quite generic and easily recognisable!
Complimentary – A sure way to know you’ve found your fragrance is by the comments people make. Some fragrances I have worn have started conversations on the tube because people been so intrigued who it was by, where to get it and how it suited me! Some things just pay for themselves in compliments.
Floral/Citrus:
Miller Harris – L’Eau Magnetic
This enlightening scent mingles salt with distant evergreen pines, embodying the spirit of a lighthearted shared experience. Notes of Italian Bergamot give an instant carefree sensation. Marine air blends with ripe citron and pink berries, with a hint of Reunion Island vanilla bourbon and Venezuelan Tonka bean for an exotic, spontaneous feel.
Cefiro is a fragrance perfectly suited for men and women, with crisp lemon and lime, punctuated with bergamot and mandarin, warmed by spicy notes of cardamom and nutmeg on a fresh floral jasmine heart that leads to a clean, musky, woody base.
Trèfle Pur, a landscape of vitality, surrounds violet leaves in green woods, freshly cut grass and dewy earth. Top notes of bitter orange from Seville, Tunisian neroli, cardamom from Guatemala. Base notes of patchouli from Indonesia, oakmoss from Slovenia, cedarwood from Texas
Woody/Warm
The newest addition to Diptyque, Oud Palao is both romantic and powerful. Conceived in great detail like a zellige, Oud Palao combines the signature scents of East and West. Agarwood, or oud, also known as liquid gold, mingles with rose, vanilla, incense and cypriol. The sillage is intense and hypnotic.
As if bursting from the earth, Chergui, a desert wind, creates an effect that involves suction more than blowing, carrying plants, insects and twigs along in an inescapable ascent.
This fragrance features tobacco leaf, honey, iris, sandalwood, amber, musk, incense, rose and hay. Warm and multi-layered ‘Serge Lutens’ changes by the hour from intense honey to a soft, comforting scent.
Atkinsons – 24 Old Bond Street
The oriental aroma intertwines crisp, bright notes with warm Cardamon and Turkish Rose. The heart introduces nuances of smoky, oak casked Whiskey and Black Tea, before a base of embracing Amber, Case Oil and Tonka Bean.
