How to wear… WIDE LEG

Is it time to wave goodbye and bid farewell to the beloved slim and skinny jeans and trousers? Well for the next couple of seasons, yes it is.

The runways weren’t shy with widening the leg opening on menswear for FW/16, taking queues from the swinging seventies and martial-arts attire. For some of us the thought of a wide leg sends shivers down our spine and a sudden thought strikes; ‘ But straight fit and loosely cut trousers are for my Dad – not me!’

Fear not as I show you three different ways to style the looser-legged garment without trading in your coolness.

SMART

Choose a pinstripe pair for an instant upgrade into the smart category. Wear with a soft classic white button-down shirt, Sweatshirt and Monk Strap shoes. Less is more with the style.

DENIM

You didn’t think it was only trousers did you? Now is the time to ask your Dad if he has any of his old Levi’s 501’s still. Opt for a classic stonewash or bleached wash for maximum effect – nail two trends at once and chop off the hems at your ankle bone and fray for a raw-edge. Team with Converse, Beanie hat and a leather jacket for an easy take on an iconic look.

CASUAL

On your ‘dress-down’ days, choose a looser sweatpant style in a premium fabric such as wool or linen. Wear them with a printed t-shirt, bomber jacket, cap and simple leather sneakers for dress-down done right!
