Double denim is one of those trends that has never really gone away. It’s hung around is some shape or form for decades, with the spotlight being cast on it every few years. Whilst some might see it as a fashion faux-pas, I adore it! There are so many different ways that we wear our denim today – there are a couple of rules to follow to avoid the worst-dressed list:
- Find a style that fits and flatters your body shape
- Do not wear matching shades of denim (black and black is fine!) or you could run the risk of looking like a cowboy!
- If you choose a Selvedge style, turn it up and show it off
- Have fun with the options available out there
For those casual days running errands and stopping off at your local for a drink with friends, opt for a faded wash and team with a dark indigo cotton shirt and crisp white sneakers for an effortless entry into the double denim world.
For those looking at something a little more dressy to wear around the office or for those smarter occasions, you can’t go wrong with a rigid indigo selvedge style. The denim has been treated with raw indigo, and as the washing step has been skipped to achieve the ‘raw’ status they will patina and age over time. Add a soft chambray denim shirt and loafers. A belt and navy blazer completes the look.
White jeans are like Marmite – you either love them or you hate them. White jeans are often thought of the uniform of choice for ‘The Real Housewives’ and Essex ‘lads’ however, when styled with the right key pieces the look can be one of perfection. Here I have chosen a beaten vintage denim jacket in a lighter wash and teamed with a soft cotton stripe t-shirt and slip-on sneakers for an easy outfit. Add some sunglasses and a bandana for a super-chic look.
Black is probably the most accessible colour of denim to choose as it will suit everyone. For this look I’ve gone for a refined rock’n’roll vibe. A classic biker jacket instantly adds a touch of Marlon Brando’s ‘coolness’ and ruggedness.
